    Indiana head coach Tom Crean

    Dec. 8, 2009
    Indiana vs. Pitt

    On the win:
"(The win) was great. There was a lot of hugging going on in the lockerroom. The bottom line is that they (the players) really earned it. It gnaws at you as a coach, as a leader or as a parental figure when your guys are working so hard and you want them to have success. I called my wife after the game and that's the first thing she said, `It's so great for them, they earned it." That's what we all feel like. These guys are working so hard and they needed a reason to see why they practiced twice on Thanksgiving Day and why we do individual workouts in the morning. And why we are walking through in ball rooms at hotels. But this was great, at a great venue and it was fantastic."

On carrying over a good week of practice into the game:
"I told our coaches that this was the closest that we have come in our one-plus years here to transferring our practice over into a game. We've had a great week of practice. I was disappointed for Tom Pritchard, that fourth foul is one that I would like to get another look at. He has been playing so well in practice. I wouldn't have thought that the way he had been playing in the game that he would be able to go out of the game and we would be able to keep on playing the way we did."

On Pitt cutting into the lead:
"We started doing some things that we normally don't do, like throwing cross-court passes. We don't skip the ball much for that reason, I'm not very big on that. We want to beat the press like we did against Maryland or beat it with a diagonal pass. We made a few mistakes and their big guy hit a three and it looked like the momentum was going their way.

"But from the nine minute mark on, our guys never wavered in how they were talking to each other, in terms of finishing the game. It was all about defense. I could have not talked offense those last nine minutes and I think we would have still won the game because we were so locked in to defending. We made some mistakes like going to fast when we were trying to put the game away but that is all part of the learning process. There are still so many learning situations that we have to go through. Thankfully all of these are teachable moments from a win."

    Verdell Jones III

    On tonight's game:
"It feels great. Our hard work is starting to pay off. For our team to get a win against an elite team like this will motivate us to keep working and getting better."

    On the win:
"It felt great. People were jumping around. We were so close in so many games and for us to get a win felt great."

    More on tonight's game:
"We just played our roles really. I felt leadership came into this game. People did what they did best. If we keep playing like that, we can win close games or win big."

    On holding onto the lead:
"Leadership really came into it. Devan (Dumes) did a great job, behind the scenes, of calming us down. It was a big game, nationally televised game, we knew that and we really wanted to win. Our hunger really showed."

    Christian Watford

    On tonight's game:
"We all knew we could do it from the beginning. (We) finally showed up. We just executed our game plan and fans had our back tonight."

    More on tonight's game:
"We just played as a team. One man gets beat and we just had his back the whole night."

    On the program:
"It is one of the things we preach, putting Indiana back on the map and just bring that great tradition of Indiana."

    On the fans:
"I didn't see many Pitt fans. When I looked around, I saw our fans, Hoosier nation."
