BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Indiana men's basketball head coach Tom Crean met with members of the media on Friday, Jan. 14, to discuss the Hoosiers' game against Michigan on Saturday. Here is a transcript of what he had to say.
On the challenges Michigan presents:
"I think one thing they've become now is the best transition basketball team in the Big Ten. I haven't seen anybody that runs like they run. I think right now they throw it ahead. They're a gang rebounding team, which certainly we're working harder and harder to become all the time. They get out and they play fast on the break, so they're going to get some 3's there in transition. They move the ball very well. Darius Morris is doing a very good job of finding cutters, rollers, post-ups, shooters, and things of that nature and they mix defenses pretty well. They have a good identity."
On what Michigan is doing better now than earlier in the season:
"I think they've been playing pretty well for a period of time. They're like anybody else, they go through runs and they go through lulls. It's all how they respond to them. They're a very solid team. There's no doubt about that."
On Darius Morris:
"He's the new Manny Harris, in the sense that he attacks and creates for others. He can get to the rim really well. The ball is going to be in his hands when it's winning time. He does a good job of finding shooters if they're open, like Zack Novak, Stu Douglass, and Tim Hardaway Jr. He's playing like a floor leader for them."
On how similar they are to Northwestern:
On the home atmosphere after the string of road games:
"That's a hypothetical. I haven't really thought like that. The one thing Northwestern does such a good job of is you can't prepare for how hard they cut. They cut for layups and they cut off the screens so well. The similarities are they have great spacing, but I haven't really looked at it in that context. That'd be the one thing that would stand out."
"I think we'll have a great crowd. I think it helps. The students being back, I think that's excellent. There should be a lot of energy in the building."
On what the team has worked on this week:
"We've just worked to get better. That's all we've really done. We've tried to examine everything that we thought we could get better at. We've put some real keys out there for what we think that it should be and that's what we've spent our time on."
