Hoosiers Look Forward To Playing Wisconsin (Pre-Game Quotes)
Feb. 12, 2008
Coach Kelvin Sampson
On coming back to Bloomington for the stretch run
"It comes down to an eight-game season. Our next game is against Wisconsin Wednesday night. Our focus is to carry over what we felt like was one of our better games this season (at Ohio State) and try to get better down the stretch."
Where the team has to improve from the last game against Wisconsin
"A myriad of areas. We are a better team today than when we played Wisconsin. That is a tough place to play, first of all. We have to shoot the ball better. I felt we had a lot of really good looks against them but didn't shoot the ball well. We have to make sure we keep them off the offensive glass. They hurt us on the offensive glass and also hurt us scoring off of our turnovers. We have to take care of the ball and make sure we defensive rebound."
What impresses him most about Wisconsin
"They are tough and have a great system. Their kids are hard-nosed and they have really quick guards in (Trevon) Hughes and (Michael) Flowers. They have a really good and skilled big in (Brian) Butch. (Marcus) Landry is tough and (Joe) Krabbenhoft really hurt us last time. He is a good player. I like their team."
On the team's zone defense against Ohio State
"We used our athleticism in the zone better. We played zone in some other games this year but were not as effective. I thought we played it fast and athletic, and that is a big key for us."
On Wisconsin coming to Assembly Hall
"I think it's going to be a tough game tomorrow with Wisconsin coming in off a loss at home to Purdue. Just like any team coming off a loss, they are going to be hungry just like we were when we went on our two game winning streak. So I think it's going to be a tough and competitive game all the way to the end."
On what Indiana will have to do better this time around against Wisconsin
"I don't think we played hard enough to start the game (last time). The key is to get off to a good start, defend them well and rebound. They hurt us at then end, (Joe) Krabbenhoft on the offensive glass, him and (Marcus) Landry. So we need to keep those guy off the glass and defensive rebound and just play fast and up the court."
On what Indiana needs to improve on this time against Wisconsin
"We just need to play with a lot more energy and as a team, offensively and defensively. I think we have grown a lot the last two games as a team and have really matured and learned how to play together. If we can just carry that over I think we'll be alright."
On what they have been trying to improve on recently
"We are just continuing to build on the Ohio State and Illinois games, our zone defenses and off the ball defense as a team, as well as our chemistry on offense and defense as well."
