Indiana's Will Sheehey Selected as Dunk of the Year Nominee
Feb. 21, 2011
CHICAGO - Indiana University freshman guard Will Sheehey's powerful one-handed slam against Iowa on February 5, 2011 was selected as a 2011 Dunk of the Year nominee, announced today by sports television production and event marketing company Intersport. The 2011 Dunk of the Year is wholly determined by fan voting and will be announced on a one-hour "Dunks of the Year" special airing on CBS April 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college dunk videos are released at the Dunks of the Year fan page on Facebook. The top weekly vote-getters proceed to the Finals, which tip off March 7. The CBS special will highlight the eight finalists and reveal the 2011 Dunk of the Year.
Named the top play on SportsCenter, Sheehey's dunk - in which he blows by his defender and completely posterizes Iowa's Melsahn Basabe with a powerful one-handed jam - is competing against three other dunkers in week seven, including Illinois' Mike Davis, Syracuse's C.J. Fair, and Duke's Nolan Smith.
To support Sheehey, fans can vote once a day and share their vote with their Facebook friends. Week seven voting opened today and ends Sunday, February 27 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Winners - and therefore 2011 Dunk of the Year finalists - from the first six weeks of voting include:
Shay Shine, High Point University
