Jones III, Watford, Finkelmeier Honored By Big Ten

Indianapolis, Indiana - Sophomore Verdell Jones III was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the league's coaches and media, freshman Christian Watford was a unanimous pick for the Coach's All-Freshman team and senior Brett Finkelmeier was recognized as the program's Sportsmanship Award winner by the conference as the results of All-Big Ten voting for men's basketball by the coaches and media was announced today.
Jones III, a native of Champaign, Illinois, was named on both the coaches and media teams. In league play, he finished sixth in scoring averaging 16.7 points and was ninth in the conference in assists at 3.4 per game. He had eight games in league play of more than 20 points or more, including a career-high 28 at Northwestern. Overall, Jones scored 14.8 points and led the teams in free throws made (137) and attempted (182)
Watford led all Big Ten frosh in scoring, rebounding, free throws made and attempted overall and in conference play. In the league, he averaged 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds and shot 77.1% from the line. Overall, he averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds and shot 79.7% from the charity stripe in 30 games. He had four double-doubles this season including 14 points and 11 boards in the regular season finale against Northwestern.
Finkelmeier, a redshirt junior, completed his third season as a walk-on for the Hoosiers. The Carmel native will begin studying dentistry at IU this spring. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
