Pritchard Earns Best Put-Back of the Year Award, Sheehey Finalist in Papa John's Dunk of the Year
April 3, 2011
CHICAGO - Indiana junior forward Tom Pritchard earned the Best Put-Back of the Year award, which was one of the honors given out on CBS's 2011 Papa John's Dunks of the Year show, announced by Intersport on April 3. Freshman forward Will Sheehey was a finalist for Dunk of Year, with the award going to Louisville's Kyle Kuric.
Pritchard's put-back jam against Minnesota on Feb. 2 was highlighted earlier in the year as a nominee for Dunk of the Year. His dunk, in which he came out of nowhere, grabbed the ball in mid-air and dunked over a helpless 6-11 Ralph Sampson III, was also one of ESPN's top plays of the day.
Sheehey's powerful one-handed slam against Iowa on Feb. 5 was selected as a nominee and voted into the finals by Indiana fans on Facebook. Named a top play on SportsCenter, Sheehey's dunk, where he blows by his defender and completely posterizes Iowa's Melsahn Basabe with a powerful one-handed jam, beat out Illinois' Mike Davis, Syracuse's C.J. Fair, and Duke's Nolan Smith to advance to the finals.
