D.J. White to Return for 2007-08 Season
April 17, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana junior forward D.J. White announced Tuesday that he will return for his senior season in 2007-08.
"I believe it is in my best interest to return for my senior season," White said. "I learned a lot from Coach Sampson and the rest of the coaching staff and really improved my game last year. I'm excited to take my game to another level and I look forward to a very successful season with my team."
White, a second team All-Big Ten selection, led the Hoosiers with 13.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting 51.2 percent in 31.8 minutes per game. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native was one of the 30 finalists for the Naismith Award and a first team NABC All-District 10 member.
He finished the season with three straight double-doubles (eight overall), as the Hoosiers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season 21-11.
"D.J. was one of our three captains last year and has been our leader in off-season workouts," Indiana Head Coach Kelvin Sampson said. "I think he made a wise decision. Not only is he going to improve on the court, but he will receive his degree as well, which is even more important."
White, a general studies major, is on track to graduate next year.
"Another factor in my decision is I want to graduate," White said. "Getting my degree from Indiana University is very important to me and my family."
