Bloomington, Indiana - With a perfect score of 1,000 this past year, the Indiana University men's basketball team has improved its multi-year APR score to 929, completing its academic improvement plan as it moves above the NCAA's minimum threshold of 925.

The APR is in its eighth year of existence.

"I want to congratulate Coach Tom Crean for providing the leadership necessary to raising the program's standards with regard to the APR," said IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass. "This is a tremendous step for the program and an accomplishment that all of Hoosier Nation should be proud of."

Last year, men's basketball's performance improved 164 points from an 811 to 975 in measuring Crean's first full year of leading the Hoosiers.

In addition, the department saw 13 of its teams earn perfect scores, up from 10 in 2009. Those honored were Men's Basketball, Men's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Men's Golf, Women's Soccer, Water Polo, Women's Tennis, Men's Swimming, Men's Diving, Baseball, Men's Tennis, Volleyball and Rowing.

Last week, the NCAA also recognized the IU baseball, men's golf, men's soccer and women's soccer programs for their outstanding Academic Performance Program's multi-year APR score. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scored ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000.

That doubles the number of Hoosier programs that were honored with that distinction from a year ago.

"Our student-athletes, coaches and our academics staff have worked diligently to take advantage of the outstanding educational opportunities that exist at Indiana University," noted Glass.

According to the most recent figures, the latest four-year Division I Academic Progress Rate is 970, up three points over last year. The average four-year rate also rose in the high-profile sports of men's basketball, football and baseball.
