BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
IUHoosiers.com caught up with Jeremiah Rivers recently to see what he has been up to as he prepares to suit up for the Hoosiers for the first time this season after sitting out last year due to NCAA Transfer rules. Rivers transferred to Indiana from Georgetown following the 2007-08 season.
Here is what Jeremiah had to say:
On being back on the floor for games this year after having to sit out last year:
"I'm excited. It's been over a year and a half since (I've played in a real game). Over the summer I've really been trying to get back into a groove and get comfortable again."
On how his role might change this year compared to last year:
"I don't think it will change. I'm going to continue to be a leader and help lead these guys. I'm trying to get victories and I think that is one of the best ways to get victories is through leadership both on and off the court."
On the biggest difference in his game now compared to when he arrived at Indiana:
"It could be a number of things, I really do feel like I've improved on a number of different aspects, such as jump shooting, getting to the rim and ball handling. The time I had to sit out last year really helped me become more of a complete player than when I got here. And my confidence level is about as high as it has been since I got here as well so that always helps."
On one aspect that he has improved upon the most:
"I would say three-pointers and shooting off the dribble. I've always been pretty good at shooting off the dribble and having a mid-range game but that's something that I've just been trying to perfect. That's something that I've been trying to make my signature move or my end-game shot. But I also want to be able to hit that open shot when the ball gets to me."
On working at camps away from IU and how that has helped him:
On his major and what he has been doing to work towards that over the summer:
"I worked at the Vince Carter Skills Academy down in Florida with a handful of other really good college players and it really helped me to see where I was at compared to them."
"I'm trying to major in music production right now and I'm really interested in music. I actually took a Motown class during the first summer session and that was a lot of fun learning about The Temptations, The Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson along with all the other greats in Motown. It was really a special class and a lot of fun to be in."
