Aug. 13, 2006
SYDNEY, Australia - The Big Ten Foreign Tour Team is 1-1 during its trip to Australia, and Indiana senior Roderick Wilmont has been a key contributor. The 6-4 Wilmont has started both contests, and he is averaging 8.5 points and 10 rebounds in the two contests. Michigan coach Tommy Amaker is leading the league's all-star team through Australia, and they have two games in Brisbane, Australia before returning to the United States on Aug. 18.
The Big Ten opened with a 117-91 loss to the Wesy Sydney Razorbacks on Aug. 12. The Big Ten arrived in Sydney on Aug. 9 and spent the first three days sightseeing before playing their first game at the Hills Basketball Stadium - a one-hour bus trip from the team hotel. Wilmont tallied two points and recorded 12 rebounds (10 on the defensive glass).
The Big Ten bounced back with a 97-89 triumph over the Sydney Kings on Aug. 13. A tour group from Miami, Fla., found out that Wilmont is a Miramar, Fla., native and came out to support their fellow Floridian. Wilmont responded with 15 points and eight boards, as he was one of five Big Ten players in double digits.
The Big Ten heads to Brisbane for its next contest against the Brisbane Bullets on Aug. 15.
