BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Victor Oladipo, a 2013 All-American, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and No. 2 Pick in the NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, returned to Bloomington to serve as host for the Tom Crean Pro Camp this past weekend. He took a couple minutes to update fans on what he has been up to since he declared for the draft following the 2012-13 season.
On the emotions of being back in Bloomington after graduation and the NBA Draft:
OLADIPO: "It is great being here. I am definitely going to miss this place. This is where I grew up and this is where I became an NBA basketball player and I will always remember that. I will always be a Hoosier. Walking through the hallways and walking into Assembly Hall - at one point I was just standing there looking around because it was surreal feeling. It is an honor to be back and to have everyone welcome me with open arms."
On what prepared him to handle the hectic summer:
OLADIPO: "IU prepares you for everything. You get a lot of attention here and we were successful my last two years here. The people and the resources around you also prepare you for the media or any position you might get in. I think I did a pretty good job of that but it's just a stepping stone and the regular season is coming up and I am looking forward to it."
On what to focus on to prepare for the longer NBA season:
On the enjoyment he gets from helping kids at camps:
OLADIPO: "It's huge for me to stay healthy. It's going to be a long, rigorous marathon - 82 games is a lot of games. But it is what I am doing for a living so I'm looking forward to it. I have to make sure that I eat healthy and work out to keep my strength so I can stay strong and not get injured. I am looking forward to the start of the season and everything to get started and get acclimated to the league."
OLADIPO: "I am a big kid myself. When you can touch a kids a life and they can go home and say `Victor Oladipo is my friend' is huge for them. They take pride in that and it touches their lives. Kids are the best thing on the face of the earth because they just live life and they have no worries and I am just trying to give back to them."
