Fight Cancer With Coach Kelvin Sampson
Aug. 29, 2007
Bloomington, Indiana - Indiana fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the Hoosier basketball tradition while combating cancer at "Opening Day with Coach Kelvin Sampson" on Friday, October 12.
"Cancer is one of those horrible diseases that, directly or indirectly, affects everybody," said Sampson. "I know my wife Karen and I have been touched by cancer on both sides of our family, so this is an opportunity to give back."
The American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer event will be held at center court in Assembly Hall with breakfast beginning at 6:30 a.m. A program featuring Coach Sampson and special guests will commence at 7:30 a.m.
"We have tremendously passionate fans at Indiana and I know that they are the type of people that want to help other people," added Sampson. "So this is our chance to raise dollars for the American Cancer Society, and more specifically, Coaches vs. Cancer, which is also the charity of choice for the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches)."
A silent auction will be held offering the opportunity for someone to serve as "Coach for a Day" and attendees also have the chance to bid on ball boy and ball girl positions and much more.
Cost to attend is $100 and you must order by September 24 by calling the American Cancer Society at (812) 336-8423.
"I have worked directly with Coaches vs. Cancer in a variety of ways over
the years and it is something I want to be involved with here at Indiana," said Sampson.
