Indiana freshman Nick Williams, from Mobile, Ala., sat down with to talk about a wide range of topics from why he chose the number he did to what he is looking forward to this year.

What is your favorite game/shot/moment playing basketball?
"I can say my favorite game was my junior year because we won the state championship. I didn't really score that many points, but winning the state championship, because not too many teams can win it, was a great feeling."

What has been the biggest adjustment you have had to make since joining the Indiana basketball program?
"Really, the speed of the game. Everybody is faster and everyone is bigger. And working hard all the time and never quitting."

If you had to list one person/place/thing that led you to Indiana, who would it be?
"Coach Crean all the way. I found him to be a very trustworthy person and a great coach that thinks about the fundamentals all the time and trying to get you better."

Before joining the Indiana basketball program, what was one word that came to mind when some one said Indiana basketball?
"Isiah Thomas were the first two words. And then coach Knight and the tradition. The tradition really just put me over the top."

What are you looking forward to the most going into this year?
"The excitement of all the Hoosier fans, coach Crean and my teammates and everybody involved with Indiana basketball."

What do you enjoy doing when you are not playing basketball?
"Sleep. We are here all the time and in study hall all the time so when we aren't doing anything we sleep."

Who has been the biggest influence in your life so far?
"My mom, by far. I'm from a single-parent household and she is all I got. So I'm really doing this for her."

If you were not playing basketball, is there another sport you thing you could play at the collegiate level?
"Maybe football because I'm from Alabama. But if I'm not playing basketball then I might try football."

Do you have any superstitions before practice or games?
"I wouldn't say it's a superstition but more of a habit. I always put my right sock on first, then my left. And I put my right shoe on first and then my left shoe. I don't really think it's a superstition but I am conscious of it and if I put my left sock on first, I'll take it off and put the right one on."

Why did you pick the number you did to wear at Indiana (Williams wears #20)?
"Not really. My freshman year, I was the youngest on the team so everybody got their jersey's before me and no body took that number so I took it and have had it ever since."
