Bloomington, Indiana - The 2009-10 basketball season will tip-off Friday evening, October 16, in Assembly Hall at Hoosier Hysteria, presented by Smithville. Admission is free but fans are encouraged to bring a canned good to donate to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Students are encouraged to register upon entering Assembly Hall for the chance to win prizes from "Coach Crean's Closet" throughout the evening.

"We want this to be top of the line, a major league event, and that's what we're looking forward to, said IU men's coach Tom Crean."

The men's team will join the women's basketball team and will sign autographs at 6:30 p.m., in the upstairs concourse of Assembly Hall. An item will be provided for fans as the players will not sign any outside item that evening.

The men's team will be introduced around approximately 8:30 p.m. and will go through some brief drills, have a dunk contest and will compete against the women in a three-point contest.

Coach Crean also will be judging a Big Head contest and the Hoosiers will conclude the evening with a scrimmage.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with the women's volleyball team taking on Iowa at 5:30 p.m. in a "Breast Cancer Awareness" match. Fans may take a seat above the court on the east and west sides of Assembly Hall. Only those with athletic department issued color-coded wristbands may enter and sit at the court level or in most end zone seats. A few seats in the southeast end zone may be available to the general public.

The women's team will take the floor between 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and be introduced to the crowd and will go through their first brief workout of the season. Women's Basketball Coach Felisha Legette-Jack and the Hoosiers open the 2009-10 season after tying the school record with 21 wins last year and making their third trip to the postseason in three years. Indiana returns eight players to a team that is highlighted by senior All-Big Ten performer Jamie Braun and junior Jori Davis .

Portions of Coach Crean's speech, the three-point field contest, slam dunk contest and the team's scrimmage will air on a delayed basis on the Big Ten Tailgate Show at 11 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. The show is originating from Bloomington.
