    THE OPENING TIP
    Indiana begins its 112th season of college basketball against the Stony Brook Seawolves on Friday, Nov. 11, in the first game of the season for both teams. The Hoosiers are coming off a 90-72 victory over the University of Indianapolis in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Seawolves are picked by several publications to win the American East Conference after advancing to the conference tournament championship a year ago.

    Including exhibition games, IU will play eight games in 26 days during the month of November to start the season. Starting with the regular season opener against Stony Brook on Nov. 11, the Hoosiers will play three games in six days, culminating with a road game at Evansville on Nov. 16. The Hoosiers return 93.3 percent of their scoring with 2,078 of 2,226 points returning.

    THE COACHES
    Indiana named Tom Crean as its 28th men's basketball coach on April 2, 2008, and is entering his fourth year with the Hoosiers. Has is 218-162 all-time as a head coach and picked up wins over No. 18 Illinois and No. 20 Minnesota last season, his first against ranked opponents at Indiana. He came to Indiana from Marquette where he was 190-96 (66.4) in nine seasons and made five NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2003 Final Four.

    Steve Pikiell is in his seventh year as the head coach at Stony Brook, compiling an overall mark of 73-108.

    QUICK HITS
    Indiana has won 13 straight season-openers and 26 consecutive home-openers.

    Tom Crean is 11-1 all-time in regular season openers, including his 8-1 mark during his career at Marquette. On his way to victories in each of his three season-openers at Indiana, Crean's teams have outscored their opponents by an average score of 84.6 to 61.6. And in his 12 season openers, Crean's teams have allowed 69 or more points just once.

    Freshman forward Cody Zeller has been named to the 12-player Wayman Tisdale Award Preseason Watch List, honoring the nation's top freshman for the 2011-12 season, announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Oct. 20. Zeller has been a pick to be the league's top freshman by several preseason publications.

    Junior forward Christian Watford is the top scoring third-year player in the conference with 834 points. He averaged 16.0 points and 5.4 rebounds as a sophomore and was named a preseason Second-Team All-Big Ten selection by several publications and website's.

    Senior Verdell Jones III is fourth among active Big Ten scorers with 1,122 points which ranks 33rd in Indiana men's basketball history. He has averaged 12.9 points in his career and 14.0 points in Big Ten play.

    Junior Jordan Hulls enters the season having made 41 straight free throws and was a perfect 35-of-35 from the line in Big Ten play a year ago. Hulls was selected as the 30th best shooter in the country according to CBSSports.com.

    Sophomore Will Sheehey had a team-high 18 points against Indianapolis. Last year, he averaged 4.8 points and was picked by CBSSports.com to be a breakout player in 2011-12.
