INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Kelvin Sampson Era officially gets underway on Monday, Nov. 13 when Indiana (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opens the 2006-07 regular season against Lafayette (1-0, 0-0 Patriot League) in the first round of the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off. The Leopards and Hoosiers clash at 9 p.m. at Conseco Fieldhouse (18,345). The game will be televised live by ESPN2.

Monday's game marks Lafayette's second of the season. The Leopards downed host Wagner, 76-70 on Nov. 10. Senior captain Jamaal Hilliard's 16 points paced three Lafayette players in double figures.

Indiana closed exhibition action with an 83-46 victory over Indianapolis on Nov. 10. Five IU players scored in double figures, highlighted by junior forward D.J. White's 17 points (11-of-14 from the free throw line).

The Indiana University Radio Network will air every Hoosier game, as WHCC (105.1 FM) serves as the flagship station for a network that has over 50 statewide affiliates. Don Fischer is in his 34th season as the play-by-play man, with former IU guard Todd Leary in his sixth season as color analyst and Joe Smith is in his 24th season as the pregame, halftime and postgame host.

Dan Shulman (play-by-play), Dick Vitale (analysis) and Doris Burke (sideline) will be on the call for ESPN2.

Should Indiana prevail over Lafayette, it would...
    • mark the 11th time in the last 13 years that Indiana has won its regular season opener.
    • mark its fourth victory in its last five games at Conseco Fieldhouse. Indiana enters the Lafayette game with a 12-4 record at Conseco and a 69-12 mark in games played in the Circle City.
    • advance to the NIT Midwest Region final on Tuesday, Nov. 14 against either Butler or Notre Dame.
    • give Coach Sampson an 18-2 record in his last 20 regular season openers.
    • mark its first-ever victory in its only game against Lafayette and the third win against a Patriot League team.
    • improve Indiana's all-time record in the Preseason NIT to 13-4.
