    The Opening Tip
    The Indiana men's basketball team is ranked eighth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and AP Poll and will host the second round of the Chicago Invitational Challenge. IU is coming off a 100-49 win over Longwood in the first round on Sunday. UNC Wilmington is 1-1 this season after falling at Illinois State in their first round contest, 89-73, on Sunday. Xavier, Illinois State, Kent State, UNC-Wilmington, Longwood, Southeast Missouri State, and Coppin State will join the Hoosiers in Hoffman Estates, Illinois November 23 and 24.

    Rounds one and two will be played at Indiana, Xavier, Illinois State and Kent State. The Hoosiers will battle Illinois State on November 23 and then face either Kent State or Xavier on November 24.

    The Coaches
    Two-time National Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson was named the 26th head coach in Indiana University history on March 29, 2006 and enters his second year with the Hoosiers and 25th as a collegiate head coach. He has notched 16 20-plus win seasons and is 478-268 (.648). In his first year with the Cream and Crimson, Sampson's squad finished 21-11 and tied a school record by going 15-0 at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers earned their 34th NCAA Tournament bid, advanced to the second round of the West Regional after defeating Gonzaga, 70-57, in the first round, and were ranked as high as 19th in the country during the regular season.

    UNC Wilmington Coach Benny Moss is in his second year with the Seahawks.

    Indiana will battle Illinois State on Friday, November 23 in the third round which will be played at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The Hoosiers will take on either Xavier or Kent State on Saturday before returning home November 27 to face Georgia Tech in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.



    Longwood Postgame Notes
    • The following are post game notes from #8 Indiana's 100-49 win in the first round of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

    • IU Coach Kelvin Sampson registered his 478th career win.

    • The Hoosiers scored 100 points in a regular season game for the first time since November of 2005 when they had 102 against Western Illinois. IU is 20-1 when scoring 70 or more under Sampson.

    • Indiana's 58.5% shooting effort was its best effort under Coach Kelvin Sampson in 34 games. IU made 38 of 65 attempts from the floor.

    • The Hoosiers 61.1% performance from long distance also was the best effort ever for the team under Sampson. IU made 11 of 18 triples.

    • Indiana's 22 assists is the second most in the last two seasons in a single game. The Hoosiers had 23 last year against Penn State at home.

    • The Hoosiers had six players in double figures for the first time since January 31, 1998 against Minnesota. Eric Gordon (24), Jordan Crawford (16), Armon Bassett (14), D.J. White (12), Lance Stemler (12) and DeAndre Thomas (10) also scored in double digits. Against the Gophers, A.J. Guyton (23), Luke Recker (13), Andrae Patterson (10), Luke Jimenez (11), William Gladness (11) and Michael Lewis (16) all finished in double figures in that game.

    • Indiana's 46 rebounds also tied their best mark in the Sampson era. They had 46 against Charlotte last year.

    • Indiana outscored Longwood, 47-18 in the paint, 18-0 off of turnovers and 15-2 on the run.

    Individual Notes

    • Gordon led the team with 21 points and established a new IU standard for a player in his first two games. His 54 points bettered the 52 scored by George McGinnis against Eastern Michigan and Kansas State in December, 1970. Gordon is shooting 58.6% from the field and 63.2% from long distance.

    • Crawford added 16 points off the bench and made seven of 10 shots. He is averaging 14.5 points in two games as the sixth man.

    • Bassett continues to be on fire with 14 points in 23 minutes. For the season, he is shooting 75.0% from the floor (12/16) and 70% from long distance (7/10).

    • White had 12 points in 21 minutes.

    • Stemler had 12 points off the bench and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

    • Thomas made his first career start and had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 15 minutes.

    • Junior Jamarcus Ellis had nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

    • Freshman Eli Holman had his first career points as a Hoosier with four in 14 minutes. He also had six boards and two blocks.

    • Freshman Brandon McGee also had his first basket as a Hoosier. he also added four rebounds and three steals.

    • Junior Kyle Taber had two rebounds and an assist in five minutes.

    •Senior Adam Ahlfeld made his first appearance of the season.

    • Freshman Brett Finkelmeier played the first three minutes of his career.
