IU Wins Thriller in Overtime

Indianapolis, Ind. - After squandering a 14-point halftime lead, the Indiana Hoosiers rebounded to pick up an 80-77, overtime victory over the Xavier Musketeers in the Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse. The Hoosiers improve to 2-1 on the year, while Xavier drops to 3-2.
Bracey Wright scored a game-high 27 points, eight of which were in overtime. Sean Kline had 12 points, and Marshall Strickland and A.J. Moye were the other Hoosiers in double figures with 11 each.
Trailing 67-64 with 30 seconds left in regulation, Wright rebounded an errant Roderick Wilmott three-point attempt. The Colony, Texas, product got the put back, was fouled and knotted the game at 67 all.
Wright made a lay-up with just over 35 seconds remaining in overtime to tie the game at 77. Getting fouled on the lay-up, Wright went to the line where he sunk his free throw to put Indiana up 78-77. Donald Perry salted the game away nailing two free throws with just over 11 seconds remaining to give Indiana the 80-77 victory.
The Hoosiers trailed by their largest overtime margin of five points, 75-70, with just over two minutes remaining, before closing the game on a 10-2 run.
Indiana appeared as though it would cruise to victory as it led almost the entire first half. Xavier took it's only lead in the first when it went ahead 6-5, on a Romain Sato jumper and free throw just four minutes into the game. The closest Xavier came the taking the lead again in the half was when it cut the Indiana lead to 11-10 following a Justin Doellman three-pointer. The Hoosiers then went on a 14-1 run to open up a 14-point cushion at 25-11. Perry hit a three to cap the run for IU as Wright had five and Moye had four during the run. Indiana went into halftime leading by 14 points at 38-24. The Hoosiers shot 57.7 percent in the first half, while holding Xavier to 29 percent.
The Musketeers opened the second half on a 14-4 run. Xavier evened the game for the first time at 50 with just over seven minutes remaining in the contest. They would take their first lead since 7-6 just 30 seconds later at 52-50. The lead reached four on three occasions in the closing six minutes.
Indiana finished the game shooting 48.3 percent, but was hampered by making only 61 percent from the free throw line at 19-of-31. The Hoosiers also out-rebounded Xavier 45-33 with Wright and Kline leading the way with seven apiece. Strickland also helped the Hoosiers to victory with four assists and three steals.
The Hoosiers return to action when they travel to Winston Salem, N.C., to battle Wake Forest at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The game will be televised live by ESPN.
