Dec. 18, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten Newtork will be airing two of Indiana's greatest men's basketball games on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
Starting at 6pm, Indiana fans can catch the Hoosiers' three-point triumph over Kentucky from 1990. Calbert Cheaney scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half to lead Indiana. A three-pointer by Kentucky's Jamal Mashburn tied the game at 82 with 55 seconds to go, but foul trouble plagued Kentucky and gave Indiana the edge. Ten of the Hoosiers' final 18 points came from the foul line as Indiana defeated its rival, 87-84.
Then at 8pm, the 1981 NCAA Championship game between Indiana and North Carolina will be broadcast. The Spectrum was the scene of an Indiana national championship for the second time in five years. The Tar Heels led for nearly the entire first half, but Ray Tolbert and Landon Turner shut down North Carolina's future NBA stars James Worthy and Sam Perkins in the second half. Isiah Thomas, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, scored a game-high 23 points to go with five assists and four steals.
