Dec. 23, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana freshman forward Noah Vonleh (Haverhill, Mass.) was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week on Monday, the conference announced. It is the fourth time this season that Vonleh has received the award, sharing this week's selection with Zak Irvin from Michigan.
Vonleh averaged 10 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games last week against Nicholls State and Kennesaw State. On Friday against Nicholls State, he scored six points and hauled in nine rebounds in a convincing win over the Colonels. Then on Sunday, he contributed 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and also had eight rebounds.
His four awards this season are the most by a Big Ten freshman since Cody Zeller and Trey Burke both received the award seven times during the 2011-12 season. Jared Sullinger (Ohio State) holds the record for most Freshman of the Week selections, receiving the honor 12 times during the 2010-11 season.
