IU Teams Up with the BTN for Home Court Challenge
Dec. 30, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Athletics has teamed up with the Big Ten Network for the Home Court Challenge, which is a charitable competition among Big Ten basketball student sections.
The Home Court Challenge is student-crafted competition among the Big Ten basketball student sections that provides a benchmark for evaluating the impact of a student section, while raising money and awareness for charities partnered with the Big Ten Network.
In order for the charity to win, student sections are asked to distract opponents during free throws. The student section that allows the lowest opponent's free throw percentage during Big Ten conference games will be declared the winner.
In addition to yearlong bragging rights, the Big Ten Network has pledged to donate $5,000 to the winning student section's paired charity. If Indiana's Crimson Guard wins in 2011-12, they've chosen to give the $5,000 amount to Coaches vs. Cancer.
In addition to the charitable donation, the student section would receive a traveling trophy with a nameplate to be updated each year. These awards will be presented to charity representatives and student section officers at the Big Ten Tournament each March.
