BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head coach Tom Crean, along with associate head coach Tim Buckley, senior Jordan Hulls, juniors Victor Oladipo and Will Sheehey, and sophomore Cody Zeller preview the Hoosiers' game vs. the Hawkeyes on Monday, Dec. 31 in Iowa City.
Head Coach Tom Crean
"Iowa is playing as well as any team in the Big Ten right now. One of the reasons is their efficiency on offense and defense where they have very few empty possessions which shows great leadership, maturity and talent."
"Fran McCaffery has been one of the better coaches in the country for some time. He and his staff have put their stamp on the Iowa program as is evident by how hard they play and how physical they are."
"We're getting ready to go into a tumultuous period, as is everybody else in this league. When you've got this many teams that are ranked, and then you're getting ready to play a team like Iowa that is 11-2 and as good as they are. Some of these other teams that could be ranked that aren't ranked right now for one reason or another...none of that make any difference...everybody is good. Iowa is very good and we've got a lot of things to be better at over the long haul, and we've also got things we've got to get better at in the short-term before we play that game. So, I'm not real good at the reflection part of it."
Associate Head Coach Tim Buckley
"Iowa is a another team that plays 94 feet of basketball. We not only have to put an emphasis on scoring the ball but also getting stops and not lertting them get out in their transition game."
"Aaron White is one of those under the radar guys who has improved in so many areas, as a ballhandler, as a rebounder, as a shooter He is very athletic and long. Devyn Marble is kind of the same way and he has come in a developed into on of the better players in the Big Ten. He is a matchup problem for every team he faces because he is so versatile and can play three positions. Now they have added some good, tough, competitive freshman who have talent and skill and I think that has improved their program."
Senior Jordan Hulls
"I think we are very prepared for the league to start. The coaches do a great job of working us every day. We're getting better every single day. The Big Ten is a great conference with a lot of good teams. We're going to have to perform every single night, so that is what we're going to focus on."
Junior Victor Oladipo
"I like that we have gotten better each game and have definitely learned from our loss. We came together and realized what we had to do to improve and recognized the things we need to get better at. I think we are ready going into Big Ten play. We have leaders who have been through it and we have young guys that are mentally and physically prepared for it, so I am looking forward to it and I know these guys are as well."
Junior Will Sheehey
"Every team in the league has a lot of veterans so both teams have experienced guys. You have to bring your offense and defense on the road. We have to defend at a high level, move the basketball and work inside/out. I feel like we are on the same page as a team."
Sophomore Cody Zeller
"We want to get off to a good start (in the league) and Iowa has been playing really well. Every game in the Big Ten is going to come down to the little details. We have to rebound, take charges and take advantage any time you can. Every game in this league is a fight to the end."
