Graduated with a bachelor of arts in telecommunications in December 2010. Burgess earned the team's 2010 Corby Davis Memorial Award, which honors a senior player whose conduct on campus, in the classroom and on the football field most closely exemplifies the qualities of the former Big Ten MVP. He appeared in 40 career games, including all 36 games his final three seasons, with six starts. Burgess rushed for 613 yards and seven touchdowns to go along with 65 receiving yards.
2010 (Senior): Started six times and appeared in all 12 games ... led the team with 352 rushing yards and 104 carries ... scored three times and added five receptions for 38 yards ... carried the ball a career-high 19 times for a career-best 102 yards in win over Arkansas State ... added two receptions for 15 yards ... collected 55 yards against No. 15 Iowa, 42 yards at Illinois and 37 against Northwestern ... voted Arkansas State game captain ... also a contributor on special teams with four tackles ... scored one touchdown apiece in season-opening win over Towson, vs. Penn State and in Old Oaken Bucket victory at Purdue ... two-time IU special teams player of the week and a member of the team's One-Play Warrior Club (special teams players of the year) ... 2009 (Junior): Moved from running back to linebacker to open spring practice before switching back during spring drills ... short yardage back and special teams standout appeared in all 12 games ... rushed 47 times for 130 yards with three scores and caught three balls for 13 yards ... also made seven tackles, six solo, and recovered a fumble on special teams ... earned Academic All-District V honors ... rushed for 59 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown at Akron ... opened the year with a TD and 14 yards vs. Eastern Kentucky ... tallied third score of the year vs. No. 24 Wisconsin ... six-time IU special teams player of the week and a member of the team's One-Play Warrior Club (special teams players of the year) ... 2008 (Sophomore): Played in all 12 of the team's games at running back and on special teams ... finished the season with 54 yards on 17 carries ... had 29 yards on eight carries against Murray State ... rushed three times at No. 7 Penn State (10 yards) and vs. Wisconsin (six yards) ... gained six yards on two attempts against Western Kentucky ... four-time Hoosier special teams player of the week ... Academic All-Big Ten selection.
2007 (Freshman): A reserve at running back, appearing in four games and recording 18 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown ... posted 10 rushes for 50 yards and his first career touchdown against Indiana State ... also made one catch for 14 yards in the game ... ran for 25 yards on five carries against Minnesota ... Academic All-Big Ten selection.
2006: Redshirted the 2006 season.
Prep/Personal: Earned all-area honors and was named first team all-conference as a senior at Jeffersonville High School ... also a member of the 2005 all-region team and selected as an Indiana Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star ... earned all-state special mention following senior campaign and named the 2005 Area Player of the Year ... parents are Reginald Burgess and Barbara Readus ...
