    Seven Walk-Ons Earn Scholarships

    Graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in history in December 2012.

    2012 (Senior): Did not see any game action in 2012.

    2011 (Junior): Averaged 66.8 yards on four kickoffs in season opener vs. Ball State ... suffered a season-ending knee injury prior to the week two Virginia game ... IU special teams player of the week (Ball State).

    2010 (Sophomore): Earned a scholarship prior to the season ... averaged 63.6 yards on 14 kickoffs ... started the season-opening win vs. Towson and hit both field goal attempts (24, 36) along with all five extra point attempts ... averaged 65.6 yards with one touchback on 10 kickoffs in the game ... named IU special teams player of the week following the Towson game.

    2009 Honors: Member of the Sporting News and Freshman All-Big Ten teams.

    2009 (Freshman): Hit 14-of-25 field goals, 34-of-34 extra points and averaged 62.2 yards on 58 kickoffs with seven touchbacks ... finished seventh in Big Ten games only in points per game (6.4) and ninth in the league overall in points per game (6.3) ... through 2012, 14 field goals shared seventh and 34 extra points ranked seventh on IU's single-season lists ... became the fourth Hoosier (sixth time) to collect four field goals in a game, tying a school record, at No. 23 Michigan ... made three field goals and averaged a season-high 67.0 yards on six kickoffs with one touchback in win over Western Michigan ... tallied a pair of field goals and two touchbacks in victory against Illinois ... hit five extra points in win at Akron ... two-time IU special teams player of the week.

    2008: Redshirted the 2008 season.

    Prep/Personal: Played for head coach Tom Dilley at Lawrence North High School ... 2007 Mr. Punter finalist ... broke school records with 134 points, 95 extra points, 85 touchbacks and a 48-yard field goal ... named Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Top 50 All-State at kicker and punter, 5A all-state at punter, IFCA Region 7 All-Star and All-Marion County at kicker as a senior ... earned all-state and All-Marion County honors at kicker his junior season ... three-year football and two-year soccer letterwinner ... parents are Mike and Diane Freeland ... Nicholas Paul Freeland was born on July 27, 1989.
