Johnson earned the Corby Davis Memorial Award following the 2008 season, which was established by the family and friends of Corby Davis to honor a senior player whose conduct on campus, in the classroom and on the football field most closely exemplifies the qualities of former Big Ten MVP Corby Davis. A four-year starter at strong-side linebacker, Johnson finished his career with 182 career tackles, 64 solo, along with four sacks, 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. Johnson played in 48 career games with 37 starts.
2008 (Senior): Started all 12 games at strong-side linebacker ... ended the year with 50 tackles, 33 solo, with two sacks and four tackles for loss ... finished with nine tackles, five solo, and a sack at Minnesota ... carded seven stops and one tackle for loss against Wisconsin ... posted six tackles, five solo, vs. both Western Kentucky and Ball State ... added one TFL and a pass breakup against the Cardinals ... recorded a half-sack vs. Murray State and at Illinois ... posted five tackles against the Fighting Illini.
2007 (Junior): Started 11 games and played in all 13 contests at strongside linebacker, posting 58 tackles and 39 solo, both of which ranked seventh on the team ... added three tackles for loss, one interception, one sack and one pass breakup ... made a career-best 13 tackles, nine solo, and posted 1.5 TFL against Penn State, including his lone sack of the season ... posted 10 stops, including 1.5 for loss, at Western Michigan ... posted eight tackles, six solo, vs. Illinois ... collected seven tackles, six solo, against Akron ... ... made two tackles and deflected an Adam Weber pass that went to Leslie Majors for an interception against Minnesota ... notched his first career interception against Ball State and returned it 38 yards ... pulled down five Wildcats and added a pass breakup at Northwestern.
2006 (Sophomore): Standout for the Hoosiers at linebacker, finishing fifth on the team with 52 total tackles and tying for the team lead with two forced fumbles ... opened the year in style, as he recorded his first career forced fumble, second career fumble recovery and eight tackles in the Hoosiers' victory over Western Michigan ... two weeks later, he matched a career high with nine tackles, one for loss, against Southern Illinois ... followed that with six tackles, including one sack, and forced a fumble against Connecticut.
2005 (Freshman): One of three true freshmen to see action ... played in all 11 games, starting against Nicholls State, Kentucky and Purdue ... recorded a career-high nine tackles in his first start (Nicholls State) ... added four stops against Minnesota.
Prep/Personal: Played linebacker for head coach Shawn Killets at Bartow Senior High School, earning 3A All-State third team honors as a senior ... also a Central Florida All-Star and first team all-county in 2004 ... a member of the high school track team as a sprinter and long jumper ... born on May 12, 1987, Eugene John Johnson majored in recreational sport management.
