    The Hoosiers finished with 217 yards on the ground, surpassing 200 yards rushing for the second straight game.

    Murphy started 42 times and played in 47 career games. He recorded 279 tackles, 174 solo, one sack, seven tackles for loss, four interceptions, two INT touchdown returns, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and nine pass breakups. Murphy became the third Hoosier to collect Capital One Academic All-America honors twice - Will Meyers (2005-06) and John Hammerstein (1994-95). He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in informatics in May 2015.

    2014 (Senior): Started all 11 games in which he appeared ... posted 49 tackles, 30 solo, with 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and two pass breakups ... recorded a 47-yard INT TD return, the second of his career, to go along with five solo stops and one PBU against Penn State ... made five tackles with one pick and one TFL in the win at No. 18 Missouri ... finished with a game-high nine stops, five solo, at Iowa ... collected seven solo tackles at Michigan and seven stops at No. 7 Ohio State ... added six tackles with a half-stop for loss at Bowling Green and six tackles against No. 8 Michigan State ... two-time IU defensive player of the week (Missouri and Penn State) ... four-time game captain (Bowling Green, Michigan, Rutgers and Ohio State).

    2013 Honors: Capital One Academic All-American (ninth Hoosier all-time) ... Capital One Academic All-District V team member ... Academic All-Big Ten selection.

    2013 (Junior): Made 11 starts and played in all 12 games ... finished second on the team with 84 tackles ... posted 51 solo stops with his first career forced fumble, one interception and a half-tackle for loss ... led Indiana in tackles in Big Ten play with 62 ... reached 10-or-more stops three times (eight in his career), all of which resulted in game-high honors ... collected 12 tackles, eight solo, with the forced fumble against Minnesota ... added back-to-back double-digit games with 10, seven solo, in the Penn State win and 11 at Michigan State ... added seven stops apiece against Missouri, at No. 17 Wisconsin and in the Purdue victory ... picked off a pass to go along with six stops in the Illinois win ... IU defensive player of the week (Penn State) ... two-time game captain (Bowling Green and Michigan State).

    2012 (Sophomore): Started 11 times and appeared in all 12 games ... finished fourth on the team with 70 tackles and third with 49 solo stops ... made one sack, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups ... posted double-digit tackles in two games ... matched a career-high with a game-high 13 stops, including a career-high nine solos, against Wisconsin ... added a team-high 11 tackles, eight solo, with one TFL at Northwestern ... tallied eight stops with one tackle for loss at Purdue ... recovered his first career fumble at Penn State.

    2011 Honors: Earned a spot on the Yahoo Sports, and Big Ten All-Freshman teams.

    2011 (Freshman): Finished second on the Hoosiers with 76 tackles, led the way with 44 solo stops and added one tackle for loss, a 31-yard interception touchdown return and four pass breakups ... started three times at weak-side linebacker, six times at safety and appeared in all 12 games ... opened the season at safety, moved to linebacker in week three and returned to safety in week seven ... recorded the most tackles for an Indiana true freshman since 2003 (Will Meyers - 83) and led all Big Ten true freshmen ... in Big Ten play, paced the team by 13 tackles with 62 stops, including a team-best 35 solos ... 7.8 tackles per game tied for 12th in conference play only and led all freshmen ... collected double-digit tackles three times and at least eight stops five times ... netted a career-high 13 tackles with one pass breakup against Purdue ... added 11 stops, seven solo, against Northwestern and 10 tackles with eight solos, one PBU and one QBH in his first career start at safety at No. 4 Wisconsin ... made eight stops apiece against Illinois and at Ohio State ... tallied seven tackles with one TFL in his first career start against South Carolina State ... picked off a pass and returned it 31 yards for a TD at North Texas ... IU defensive player of the week (North Texas).

    Prep/Personal: Safety and running back for head coach Dan Boarman at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School ... named first team All-Northeast Ohio, second team all-state, a Summit City All-Star, an Akron Beacon Journal Top 25 All-Star and a Cleveland Plain Dealer Dream Team honoree as a senior ... team's defensive most valuable player and outstanding defensive back made a team-leading 125 tackles, 91 solo, with five tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and nine passes broken up ... 2009 and 2010 team captain selected to play in the Ohio North/South All-Star Game and the Big 33 All-Star Game ... first team All-Northeast Ohio Inland District, third team all-state and a Summit City All-Star as a junior ... honored as the team's offensive MVP and most outstanding running back ... also returned kicks and punts ... 2008 special teams player of the year ... three-year football, three-year track and one-year basketball letterwinner ... state qualifier in the 2009 4x200m and the 2010 4x100m relays ... National Honor Society and Academic All-Ohio team member ... parents are Mark and Pam Murphy ... Mark played safety for the Green Bay Packers from 1980-91 and was enshrined into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1998 ... sister, Kara, was a forward on the University of Akron's women's basketball team from 2008-11 ...
