    Indiana Game Notes
    Indiana vs. Virginia
    September 10, 2011

    • Sophomore cornerback Greg Heban intercepted Virginia quarterback Michael Rocco twice on the night. He is the first Hoosier to pick off a pair of passes since Mitchell Evans pulled off that feat against Arkansas State on Oct. 16, 2010.

    • Redshirt sophomore cornerback Lawrence Barnett returned a fumble for 52 yards and a score early in the fourth quarter. It was the first time a Hoosier returned a fumble for six points since Nick Polk did so against Ball State on Sept. 20, 2008. Senior safety Jarrell Drane forced the fumble, the first of his career. It marks the first defensive touchdown for IU since Matt Ernest's pick-six vs. Towson on Sept. 2, 2010.

    • With two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, the Hoosiers forced four turnovers for the first time since they had two interceptions and two fumble recoveries against Penn State on Nov. 14, 2009.

    • The Hoosiers debuted white helmets on Saturday night. It is the first time an Indiana team has worn white helmets since the 1965 and 1966 seasons.

Tre Roberson became only the second true freshman quarterback to ever play for the Hoosiers. Tim Clifford completed 8-of-15 for 143 yards with one touchdown and one interception in 1977.

Damarlo Belcher finished the night with four catches for 53 yards. Belcher now has 172 career receptions and with his third catch of the night moved into the second spot on the IU career list, surpassing Courtney Roby. IU career record holder James Hardy had 191 receptions.

    • Sophomore Kofi Hughes recovered a fumble in the third quarter, Indiana's first fumble recovery of the season and its first since the Illinois game on Oct. 23, 2010. Hughes added career highs with five catches for 44 yards.

    • Sophomore wide receiver Duwyce Wilson added a career-high tying five receptions for 60 yards with his first touchdown of the season.

    • Redshirt freshman running back Matt Perez rushed for two touchdowns in the game, the first Hoosier to post a pair of rushing touchdowns since Darius Willis scored two against Michigan on Oct. 20, 2010. Willis also added a receiving touchdown in that contest versus the 19th-ranked Wolverines.

    • True freshman D'Angelo Roberts rushed for 48 yards with a 4.4 average and a long of 27.

    • Indiana got a sack from Fred Jones, taking down Michael Rocco at the Virginia 1-yard line in the third quarter. It was the first sack of his career. He had one of Indiana's six tackles for loss in the game. Jeff Thomas had two TFLs to lead the way. Chris Adkins, Chase Hoobler and Jarrell Drane added TFLs as well.

    • Tonight's attendance was 41,549, Indiana's largest home-opening mark since 1991 (48,994 vs. Kentucky on Sept. 21).

    • IU is 20-8 in regular-season non-conference games since 2004.

    • Linebacker Jeff Thomas, wide receiver Damarlo Belcher, center Will Matte and defensive tackle Adam Replogle served as game captains.

    • Indiana won the coin toss and elected to defer.

    • On offense, Cody Evers received the first start of his career at right guard. On defense, Brandon McGhee started for the first time in his career at linebacker.

    • Indiana is now 35-17 in Memorial Stadium openers. It is the first loss for IU in the past 10 openers and IU has wins in 26 of the last 30.
