Indiana Game Notes
Sophomore wide receiver Jamonne Chester set career highs with eight catches for 92 yards. He entered the game with zero catches in 2011 and just two receptions for 13 yards in his career.
Fifth-year senior defensive end Darius Johnson forced and recovered a fumble. Johnson now has three career forced fumbles.
Senior safety Chris Adkins recorded a team-high 10 tackles, the third double-digit tackle effort of his career. It also marks the third time this season in which Adkins has paced the Hoosiers in tackles.
True freshman wide receiver Cody Latimer scored a 44-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, his first career touchdown and a career-long reception.
Sophomore wide receiver Kofi Hughes also snagged a long TD in the fourth quarter, going 67 yards for the score to pull IU within three points at 24-21 with 1:05 remaining in the game. The 67-yard reception is the longest of Hughes' career.
Sophomore quarterback Edward Wright-Baker started his fourth consecutive game, completing 23-of-40 passes for 209 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Dusty Kiel connected on 7-of-12 pass attempts for 145 yards, including a pair of long touchdown passes (44- and 67-yard tosses) in the fourth quarter. Kiel set career highs for completions (7), attempts (12), yards (145) and touchdowns (2). The 67-yard TD pass to Hughes is the longest of Kiel's career. Kiel's 44-yard TD to Latimer marked his first career touchdown pass.
True freshman wide receiver Shane Wynn had a career-high four receptions for 21 yards.
Senior wide receiver Dre Muhammad matched his career best with six receptions, totaling 49 yards. He also hauled in six passes in the season opener versus Ball State.
The Hoosier defense stepped up its game in the second half, giving up just 56 yards of offense to North Texas in the third and fourth quarters. IU held the Mean Green to just 11 yards passing and 45 yards rushing with less than three yards per carry in the second stanza.
Indiana outscored North Texas 21-3 in the second half and put up 241 yards of offense, while the Mean Green just managed 56 yards.
True freshman defensive back Mark Murphy recorded his first career interception and returned it 31 yards for a score at the 11:04 mark in the fourth quarter. It marked IU's first interception return for a touchdown since Matt Ernest raced 58 yards to pay dirt against Towson on Sept. 2, 2010.
Murphy's return marked the first interception TD return for a true freshman since Tracy Porter vs. Central Michigan on Sept. 2, 2004.
IU's defense has scored twice this season. Sophomore cornerback Lawrence Barnett scooped a fumble and took it 54 yards against Virginia on Sept. 10.
The Hoosiers forced at least three turnovers in a game for the second time season. IU picked off a pair of passes and recovered two fumbles vs. Virginia.
Indiana has three interceptions and five fumble recoveries this season.
IU started its fourth offensive line combination this season. Left tackle Andrew McDonald, left guard Bernard Taylor, center Will Matte, right guard Collin Rahrig and right tackle Justin Pagán started together for the first time.
Matte started his 28th consecutive game. He is the only Hoosier lineman to start each game over the last three seasons.
Junior defensive tackle Adam Replogle has started the last 27 games.
Chester, Latimer and true freshman running back D'Angelo Roberts made their first career starts. Roberts caught a career-high three passes. He totaled 62 yards from scrimmage (37 rushing, 25 receiving).
Defensive end Bobby Richardson became the 16th Hoosier true freshman to play this season.
Indiana won the coin doss and elected to defer.
