Indiana Game Notes Vs. Penn State 10-20-07

James Hardy's eight-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was the 30th of his career, tying him with Jade Butcher (1967-69) for the most in school history. He surpassed that with his fourth-quarter TD grab to move into sole possession of first place (31) in team history. He has scored in all eight of IU's games this year, the only receiver in the country that has accomplished that feat.

    • Hardy's two touchdowns gave him 11 on the season, giving him sole possession of second on the single-season list. It is the third time Hardy has grabbed 10 or more touchdowns in a season in his career. He has three multi-score games this year and eight in his IU career.

    • Hardy had 14 catches for 142 yards, his 12th career 100-yard game and his fourth of the season. His 14 receptions were the second-most in a single game in school history, behind Jason Spear's 16 against Purdue on Nov. 22, 1997. The last time a Hoosier had 10-plus grabs was when Hardy had 12 catches at Iowa on Oct. 15, 2005. He moved into second place in career receiving yards with 2,363.

    • Lewis' three TD passes gave him 19 for the season, moving him past Antwaan Randle El for second on the all-time list, trailing only Blake Powers' 22 in 2005. He also moved past Harry Gonso (1967-69) into third in career passing touchdowns with 33.

Kellen Lewis went 30-for-48 for 318 yards in the contest to become the sixth QB in Indiana history with over 4,000 passing yards in his career (4,173). Lewis also moved into sixth in completions (353) and fifth in attempts (642). His 30 completions were tied for third most in school history with Steve Bradley (9/22/84 vs. Northwestern). It was Lewis' third career 300-yard game.

Austin Starr nailed a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter for his 12th straight field goal. He improved to 15-for-16 on the season, moving into a tie for third place with Andy Payne (1997) for field goals in a single season. With seven points in the game, Starr moved into a tie for fifth on the single-season points list with 78.

Will Patterson picked up his team-leading third forced fumble of the season in the third quarter, the fourth of his career. Greg Middleton recovered the ball for his second of the season and of his career. Indiana scored a field goal on the ensuing drive, giving it 57 points off 20 turnovers this season.

    • Patterson and Geno Johnson each set career highs with 13 tackles in the game and nine solos to lead the team. Austin Thomas finished in double digits for the second week in a row with 12 tackles on the game.

Ryan Marando posted his fifth sack of the year for the Hoosiers in the third quarter. IU tallied two sacks in the game to give the Hoosiers 34 on the season. That trails only the 1991 and 1993 squads, which each had 36.

Nick Polk's interception in the first quarter was the first of the sophomore's career.

    • Tight end Taylor Donnell picked up his first career start for the Hoosiers. Troy Wagner (TE) and Mike Stark (RT) each collected the second starts of their careers.
