Marcus Thigpen's 57-yard TD run in the second quarter was his sixth scoring play of 50 yards or more and his fourth rushing score from 50-plus yards. He has 29 plays of 20-plus yards this season, most on the team. The TD was his 21st career score, which ties him for eighth on IU's all-time list with Alex Smith (1994-96) and Lonnie Johnson (1978-80).

Jammie Kirlew's crucial forced fumble on a Daryll Clark carry was the junior's second of the season and the third of his career. Ryan Marando later forced a Clark fumble in the fourth quarter, his third forced fumble of the year. Greg Middleton recovered both fumbles for his first two recoveries of the season to give him three in his career. Middleton became the first Hoosier since John Anderson on Nov. 11, 2000 (vs. Wisconsin) to recover two fumbles in a game.

    • Kirlew had a career-high 11 tackles in the game, but was held without a tackle for loss for the first time since Sept. 20 and without a sack for the first time since Sept. 27. Chris Adkins had his first career game in double digits with 10 tackles in the contest. Matt Mayberry had 11 tackles for his third straight game with 10-plus tackles.

Brandon Mosley's interception in the third quarter was the first of the senior's career. It was the Hoosiers' sixth interception of the year and the fifth over the past four games. Indiana now has 13 takeaways over that span.

Ryan Marando's solo sack in the second quarter gave him 2.5 on the season and was his first since the Murray State game. He had an additional sack in the fourth quarter for his first career game with two-plus sacks. Marando has made four straight starts at defensive end and has nine starts this season. Greg Middleton added his third sack of the season in the second quarter as well, giving the Hoosiers 30 sacks on the year.

Ray Fisher's 29-yard punt return in the first quarter was the longest of his career and the longest Penn State has allowed this season. Fisher had three catches in the game to move into a tie for eighth in career receptions (Duane Gunn, 116).

    • With his three receptions, junior wideout Andrew Means now has 100 in his career. He is one of 14 Hoosiers, joining teammate Ray Fisher, to reach 100 catches and 1,000 receiving yards in a career.

Tyler Replogle had a career-high seven tackles in his first career start at linebacker. Donnell Jones broke up a pair of passes making his first career start at cornerback.

Brad Martin made his first career start at tight end as the Hoosiers lined up with three tight ends to start the game. Kellen Lewis returned to the starting lineup at QB for the second time in five weeks and the eighth time this season.

    • On the offensive line, left tackle Rodger Saffold returned to the starting lineup after a two-game absence. True freshman Justin Pagán moved over to left tackle and Jarrod Smith made his first career start at center. He is the fourth player to start at center this year and the third in the last three weeks. Mike Stark has started every game at right tackle and Cody Faulkner has started 10 of 11 at right guard.

    • With Ben Chappell, Richard Council and Will Patterson out due to injury for the first time, Indiana has had 16 different starters miss 35 games while injured this season.
