BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana wide receiver Nick Stoner is headed to Boise, Idaho, this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. He qualified for the meet as a carry on IU's 4x400-meter relay.
To get into the meet, Stoner and his teammates clocked a school record time of 3:07.84 at the Alex Wilson Invitational, a time that ranks 12th in the nation this season. Stoner clocked a lifetime-best split of 47.7 as the second of four carries on the relay.
Stoner played in all 12 games this fall at defensive back and wide receiver. He posted six tackles, returned six kicks for 120 yards and one punt for 10 yards, and he rushed twice for 10 yards. Stoner earned IU special teams player of the week honors three times.
The Greenwood, Ind., native was a three-time state champion in track at Center Grove High School. As a senior, he won state titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the 4x400 to lead his team to the overall title.
Indiana's men's track and field program won its first Big Ten team title since 1992 on Feb. 25 in Lincoln, Neb.
