BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Returning to the field for the first time since Spring Break, the Indiana football team practiced for the fifth time this spring on Tuesday inside Mellencamp Pavilion. IUHoosiers.com spoke with fifth-year senior linebackers Griffen Dahlstrom and Jacarri Alexander after practice.
Dahlstrom started seven of the final eight games at weak-side linebacker and played in all 12 last season. He compiled 48 tackles, 29 solo, with one sack, seven tackles for loss (tied for fourth on team), one forced fumble and one pass breakup.
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Dahlstrom earned Indiana's 2012 Academic Excellence Award.
Alexander posted 30 tackles, 21 solo, with three tackles for loss and one forced fumble in six games at strong-side linebacker. He shared game-high honors with nine stops, a half-TFL and one forced fumble against No. 8 Ohio State.
The Winter Haven, Fla., native enrolled in spring classes and participated in practice last season after he arrived in Bloomington from Iowa Central Community College.
IU will practice on Thursday and Saturday to close out the week. The spring wraps up with the annual Cream & Crimson Spring Game on Saturday, April 13.
