BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Fort Wayne natives Lawrence Barnett and Kenny Mullen are key cogs in the Hoosiers defensive backfield. Barnett started nine times at cornerback as a sophomore last season, while Mullen appeared in all 12 games at nickel back and on special teams as a true freshman.
The former teammates at Bishop Luers High School talked to Jeremy Gray following practice.
Barnett tied for the team lead with six pass breakups, recovered a fumble and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown against Virginia in 2011. He posted 46 tackles, finished fourth on the team with 35 solo stops, made one tackle for loss and forced a fumble against South Carolina State.
Mullen started twice at nickel back. He made 18 tackles, 13 solo, with two sacks and one pass breakup. Mullen also returned 12 kickoffs for 191 yards.
