BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Cornerbacks Tim Bennett and Michael Hunter each started all 12 games for the Indiana football team last season. Both return in 2014, Bennett as a senior and Hunter as a redshirt junior.
Brandon Shelby serves as their coach. He is entering his fourth season overseeing the Hoosiers cornerbacks.
The trio spoke with IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray after the team's ninth spring practice on Thursday:
Bennett led the nation with 20 pass breakups and 21 passes defended in 2013. He paced the team with 61 solo tackles and finished fourth with 73 stops overall.
Hunter posted 42 tackles, 34 solo, three tackles for loss (seven yards), one interception (28 yards), seven pass breakups and one forced fumble a year ago. He picked off first career pass in the Hoosiers win over Indiana State and carded a career-high four PBUs in their victory against Bowling Green.
Shelby was a standout defensive back at Oklahoma, where he participated in two BCS National Championship games and three straight BCS bowl games. As a four-year letterman (2001-04), he earned both All-Big 12 honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors.
