April 8 Practice Report (4-8-04)
On Junior Defensive End Ben Ishola:
GD: "Right now he is further along in the pass game than he is in the run game. We used him in a limited role a year ago as a pass rusher. We're going to continue to use him as a pass defender. We really would like his run game to continue to improve. That is where he is behind right now."
On developing a pass rush:
GD: "Speed is the biggest issue without question. You have to get off the ball and up the field. Everyone is throwing the ball so quickly right now. Speed by far is the one ingredient."
On Junior Running Back Yamar Washington:
GD: "I think Yamar has an extraordinary work ethic and has tremendous pride. He'll push himself enough when he's ready to go, we'll know he's ready to go. He's always does the right thing on and off the field. He's terrific."
Offensive Coordinator Steve Addazio:
On today's practice:
SA: "It went great. Everyday in spring it's all about improvement. We had a good day of work and had a chance to work on situations."
On the offense:
SA: "We're happy from the standpoint we have a great group of kids working hard everyday. That makes you happy. The spring is about having a mountain of work and pecking away all spring long, and that is what we are doing right now."
On the difference between this spring and last year:
SA: "I think every spring you look at things you did well and things you want to tweak. There are always new challenges in the spring more reflective of spring ball than concepts. We are who we are, and we're trying to work on that."
On who has stood out offensively:
SA: "There have been a bunch of guys. We've had a bunch of guys step up and make big plays. Now we have to make it work all together. It's all about synchronization. We're trying to get everything fired on all cylinders."
Junior Running Back Yamar Washington:
On his recovery from last year's knee injury:
YW: "It felt good after the first four practices. Tuesday and today (Thursday) it felt a little sore."
On sitting out last season:
YW: "It was rough. I'm a competitor and hate to sit there on the sideline and not do anything. It was frustrating."
On being back to where he was before the injury:
YW: "Not quite. I think after the summer I'll be really good. I still have balance and explosion to work on right now."
