Hoosiers Set to Open 125th Year of IU Football

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Having moved into the brand new North End Zone facility over the weekend, the Indiana football staff now has its sights set on the 2009 preseason. The 125th year of Indiana Football will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Freshmen and newcomers report to preseason camp on Wednesday, and they will be followed by all returning players on Thursday, Aug. 6. Following the arrival of all newcomers, the team will host a Boys & Girls Club event at Memorial Stadium from 2-4:30 p.m. ET.
Practice opens on Friday with the beginning of the NCAA-mandated five-day acclimation period. After two practices in just helmets and shorts, the Hoosiers will have two days of practice in shoulder pads as well. After one practice in shells on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Indiana opens practice in full pads on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
In celebration of the school's 125th year of football, the Hoosiers will wear a special 125 patch on their right shoulder throughout the season. IU will also host a reunion during the weekend of the Western Michigan contest, scheduled for noon ET on Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Hoosiers kick off the 2009 campaign with their first-ever meeting against Eastern Kentucky at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. It marks the first Thursday game in Memorial Stadium's history and the first of six home games.
