Throughout the Hoosiers 2008 fall practice, IUHoosiers.com will sit down and get to know some of the freshmen football players a little better. In this installment, we asked freshman cornerback Cortez Smith 10 questions on a wide variety of topics.

What football player did you look up to growing up?
I would have to say Deion Sanders. Deion is a playmaker, and I really enjoyed the way he celebrated and had fun with the game.

What is your best football memory?
I would say jumping over someone at a Homecoming game. The crowd went wild.

Why did you choose to come to Indiana? I love the coaches; the personality of the coaches really attracted me to IU. I want to be a part of the program's success.

What person in your life do you look up to most? My brother(Jason Smith, went to Central Michigan), because he has been through and played in college. He shows me all the things he did wrong and wishes he could change and now I have the heads up on it. He's just a mentor to me.

What is something about you outside of football that would surprise most people?
I would have to say I sleep a lot. Every chance I get I sleep and play video games, and I also read books in my spare time. That may surprise people.

If you weren't playing football, what sport would you be playing?
I would say track. I ran track in high school.

How different is the level of football from high school?
It's much faster and organized. It's competitive too. You go to camps and get to go against the best, but these are people you play with every single day. You compete every day and can't let up. Plus, when I was on the field in high school you could think about what you're about to do, but here you can't really think, you just react. You know your assignment and just react on the ball.

Did you have a nickname in high school? What's the story behind it?
They called me Cool Breeze because I really didn't talk a lot. I was more action than vocal. It just seemed like I was cool every time I talked so they just called me Cool Breeze by the way it just flowed.

    What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is spaghetti. That is what I eat the most.

What are you thinking about majoring in and why?
Business management, because my brother owns real estate and I want to join companies with him or collaborate with him. I'm a people person.
