IU Football Hosts Bloomington Boys & Girls Club

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Approximately 75 members of the Bloomington Boys & Girls Club spent the afternoon with the Indiana football team at Memorial Stadium on Thursday.
The group of Hoosiers lined up on the 10-yard line at 2 p.m. and greeted the members of the Bloomington Boys & Girls Club for an afternoon that will likely resonate in the minds of those youngsters for years to come. As the kids walked in, they were paired up with an IU football player and divided into groups led by their favorite Hoosiers.
Eight activity stations were set up around the stadium, as youngsters and players alike took part in the tug of war, a football hand-off relay, a tackling station, a football equipment relay, an end zone celebration station, a home run derby, the sponge toss and a kicking station.
After the event, kids were able to get autographs from the team in addition to taking photos and enjoying popsicles under the sun.
The Hoosiers open fall camp on Friday with the first practice of the 2009 preseason. After two practices in just helmets and shorts, the Hoosiers will have two days of practice in shoulder pads as well. After one practice in shells on Tuesday, Aug. 11, Indiana opens practice in full pads on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
Indiana kicks off the 2009 campaign with its first-ever meeting against Eastern Kentucky at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. It marks the first Thursday game in Memorial Stadium's history and the first of six home games.
