Throughout the Hoosiers' 2008 fall practice, IUHOOSIERS.com will sit down and get to know some of the freshmen football players a little better. In today's installment, we asked offensive lineman Justin Pagán 10 questions on a wide variety of topics.
Why did you choose to come to Indiana?
I just chose Indiana because of the family environment. It reminded me of being at home. All these coaches are like fathers, so they just look out for everybody. I just liked the family environment here.
What person in your life do you look up to most?
My mom. The stuff we've been through has been hard. She has got us through a lot.
How different is the level of football from high school?
The big thing is the amount of good players that are here. Everybody that is here is a good player, or else they would not be playing Division I football. There is not one slacker on the field at any time. Everyone is going 110 percent.
What is your favorite food?
Anything my mom cooks. Her meatloaf is the best.
What has surprised you most since you've been at IU?
Just how all of the players are all different, but we all come together. The team is a close-knit team. Even though the freshmen are coming in, all the seniors are reaching out and trying to help us out and learn the plays.
What do you miss most about home?
I miss being in my own bed mostly. I miss sitting in my room and playing video games.
Did you have a nickname in high school? What's the story behind it?
Not really a nickname, but people call me `J', just because it is shorter than saying Justin.
What have you been doing in your spare time at the hotel?
Sleeping. We don't get back until 10:30 p.m., and that is bed checks. So, after that we go to sleep.
What are you thinking about majoring in?
I'm intending on majoring in criminal justice and getting a minor in psychology.
Why criminal justice and psychology?
I want to help people everyday. I just want to be able to go out to work and be able to help change someone's life.
