Cornerbacks Coming on Strong
Aug 13, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Brandon Shelby is in his third season as Indiana's cornerbacks coach. Shelby was a standout defensive back at Oklahoma, where he participated in a pair of BCS National Championship games and three straight BCS bowl games.
As a four-year letterman (2001-04), he earned All-Big 12 honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors. In 2002, he tied a then Oklahoma record with four sacks for a defensive back.
Shelby joined IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray following Tuesday's practice:
Tim Bennett played in 11 games and started three times at safety in 2012. He made 17 tackles, 12 solo, with one sack and three pass breakups. Bennett moved to cornerback prior to preseason camp.
Ryan Thompson moved from safety to cornerback during 2013 spring practice. He played in seven games one season ago after he arrived at IU from Itawamba (Miss.) Community College.
The seniors spoke with IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray after Tuesday's practice:
Indiana will practice twice on Wednesday and Sunday, with a single session on Thursday and the team's second scrimmage on Friday next week.
The Hoosiers host eight games at Memorial Stadium this season and open against Indiana State on Thursday, Aug. 29. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on BTN.
