BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana returns its starting kicker, punter and longer snapper from one season ago. Fifth-year senior kicker Mitch Ewald is on the Lou Groza Award Watch List for the third straight year.
Ewald is tied for third on IU's career list with 44 field goals, fourth with 105 extra points and sixth with 237 total points. He is the school's all-time career field goal percentage leader, connecting on 44-of-55 (80.0 percent), with two blocked.
His percentage is eighth among active kickers nationally. In 24 career Big Ten games, Ewald has hit 29-of-35 (82.9) field goals.
Sophomore Erich Toth took over the punting duties in week five last season. He punted 48 times for a 39.5 average.
The Brebeuf Jesuit graduate placed seven punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded two 50-yarders (51, 50). Toth also serves as the team's holder.
Matt Dooley enters his third season as the Hoosiers long snapper. He has started each of the team's 24 games over the past two campaigns.
Dooley has helped Ewald connect on 28-of-36 field goals and 72-of-73 extra points over the stretch. The junior earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012.
The specialists recently spoke with IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray:
