Throughout the Hoosiers' 2008 fall practice, IUHOOSIERS.com will sit down and get to know some of the freshmen football players a little better. In today's installment, we asked wide receiver Damarlo Belcher 10 questions on a wide variety of topics.
What football player did you look up to growing up?
Probably Randy Moss, there's a lot of similarities. We're both tall and fast and like to go for the jump ball.
What's your best football memory?
Winning the Southern Athletic Conference championship in high school. It was my first one. It was a lot of fun.
What person in your life do you look up to the most?
Probably my mom. She inspired me my whole life. I've been in football and basketball since I was seven and she kept me going.
Why did you choose Indiana?
The coaches and the players. When I came on my visit they showed a lot of love to me. Now I don't regret it. They've helped me with the plays, they help all the younger players. I'm glad I picked IU. It was a good choice.
What's something about you outside of football that would surprise most people?
I don't know. Probably my personality, I'm a funny guy.
What other players on the team are you closest too?
Tandon Doss, Charles Love III, all the receivers basically. I'm still getting to know people.
Did you have a nickname in high school? What's the story behind it?
I really didn't have a nickname. People called me D-Low or Marlo. My name was very hard for people to say so I just told them to find something short for it.
How different is the level of football here from high school?
What's your favorite food?
Way faster. We weren't running this offense in high school, so it's just something you have to adapt to real quick.
I don't think I have a favorite food. I eat pizza a lot.
What are you thinking of majoring in and why?
I'm undecided right now. But I've been thinking about sports management. I just want to do something with sports. I love sports. So anything with sports.
