BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2009 campaign marked the Indiana football program's 50th season in Memorial Stadium. IUHoosiers.com will count down the top 12 games in Memorial Stadium history this season.

A panel consisting of former Hoosier player and Director of Operations Harold Mauro, former player and current Athletic Director for Football Operations Mark Deal, former IU radio analyst Max Skirvin, current Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fischer, current IU pre-game, post-game and halftime voice Joe Smith, Herald-Times reporter Lynn Houser, long-time Hoosier Sports Information Director and current IU Assistant Athletic Director Kit Klingelhoffer and long-time Herald-Times sports editor Bob Hammel deliberated and came up with a list of the top all-time games.

Fans then emailed their votes from this list, resulting in the top 12 games in Memorial Stadium history. Here is No. 11:

    INDIANA 45, IOWA 34
    OCTOBER 29, 1988

Led by three touchdowns rushing from Anthony Thompson, the Hoosiers triumphed 45-34 over Iowa to improve to 6-1-1 in the 1988 season.

Indiana jumped out to a commanding 35-3 first half lead, then hung on and survived a Chuck Hartlieb aerial barrage before pulling away a 45-34 victory in a game that lasted 3:57.

The Hoosiers rumbled for 268 yards on the ground, 168 of those by Thompson, who carried the ball 47 times, then an Indiana record. Dave Schnell threw for a pair of TDs and 185 yards and ran for another score in the win.

Hartlieb went 44-for-60 for 558 yards in the game, but it was the Hoosiers' run defense that proved the difference, keeping the Hawkeyes in the red with -1 yard rushing on the day. Iowa had three receivers catch 11 balls or more, including 11 for 233 for Deven Harberts.
