Roberson Honored by Big Ten
Oct. 24, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana quarterback Tre Roberson collected Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday morning. The first IU true freshman quarterback to start a game threw for 197 yards with one touchdown and rushed for 84 yards at Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The Indianapolis native is the third Hoosier to win the award this year, joining true freshman running back D'Angelo Roberts (Sept. 19) and true freshman kick returner Shane Wynn (Oct. 10). Indiana leads the Big Ten with three freshman of the week honorees.
Roberson completed 16-of-24 (66.7 percent), did not throw an interception and averaged 5.2 yards on 16 carries against the Hawkeyes. His 84 rushing yards marked the most for a Hoosier quarterback since Sept. 20, 2008, when Kellen Lewis dashed for 148 yards against Ball State.
On the season, Roberson is 29-of-46 (63.0) with 355 yards, one TD and one INT to go along with 146 rushing yards on 40 attempts with one score in five games. He is just the second true freshman quarterback to play for the Hoosiers (Tim Clifford, 1977).
