BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In celebration of the 125th year of football at Indiana University, IUHoosiers.com will reveal the top 12 games in IU history, voted on by Hoosier fans. Each week during the regular season a game will be revealed. This week we bring you No. 4a and 4b, a pair of victories that lifted IU to one of its best seasons ever.

A panel consisting of former Hoosier players and current football directors of operations Mark Deal and Harold Mauro, former Indiana radio analyst Max Skirvin, current "Voice of the Hoosiers" Don Fischer, current IU pre-game, post-game and halftime voice Joe Smith, Herald-Times reporter Lynn Houser, long-time Hoosier sports information director and current IU assistant athletic director Kit Klingelhoffer and long-time Herald-Times sports editor Bob Hammel deliberated and came up with a list of the top 33 all-time games.

Fans then emailed their votes from this list, resulting in the top 12 games in Hoosier lore. The list will culminate with the top game in IU history being revealed the week of the Old Oaken Bucket game in November.

GREATEST GAME NO. 4A - INDIANA 31, OHIO STATE 10
    GREATEST GAME NO. 4B - INDIANA 14, MICHIGAN 10

In October 1987, in a space of 14 days, Head Coach Bill Mallory's Hoosiers did something no IU team had ever accomplished, defeating Ohio State and Michigan in the same season.

Anthony Thompson and Dave Schnell made Ohio Stadium silent in a "Darkest Day" thrashing 31-10. After heading to the locker room tied at 10-10, Indiana scored all 21 points in the second half to lift IU to a win over the ninth-ranked Buckeyes. Thompson finished with 126 yards and a score, while Schnell threw for two others in the win.

Two weeks later in a sold out Memorial Stadium, Joe Huff and Van Waiters limited the Wolverines to just 10 points. A Bill Reisert blocked punt led to an Ernie Jones touchdown and Dave Schnell's touchdown run gave the Hoosiers a 14-10 win over Michigan. The Hoosier defense held U-M to just 88 yards in the second half to seal the win for Indiana.
