BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the second straight season, Indiana junior safety Mark Murphy has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced Thursday afternoon. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Murphy is an informatics major with a 3.91 grade point average. In 2012, he received Academic All-Big Ten recognition and Indiana's Academic Excellence Award.

On the field, Murphy is second on the Hoosiers with 204 tackles and 126 solo stops in his career. The Akron, Ohio, native is fourth on the team with 58 tackles, 33 solo, to go along with one forced fumble this year. Murphy claimed his third double-digit tackle game of the season and the seventh of his career with a season-high 12, eight solo, against Minnesota last weekend.

Those on the all-district teams are now placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
