BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana redshirt freshman kicker Mitch Ewald earned co-Big Ten Special Teams and Freshman of the Week honors, the conference announced today. Ewald shared both awards with Northwestern kick returner Venric Mark.

The Naperville, Ill., native hit a 26-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining in regulation to tie Saturday's Old Oaken Bucket game against Purdue and gave IU its first Bucket win in West Lafayette since 1996 with a 31-yarder in overtime. Ewald also hit all four of his extra points and kicked off six times, with the Boilermakers longest return a 24-yarder.

His game-winning field goal was the first for a Hoosier since Austin Starr delivered a 49-yarder to win the 2007 Purdue game. Ewald finished his first season as a Hoosier 16-for-19 on field goals. The 16 field goals tied Bill Manolopoulos for the third most on IU's single-season list. In the extra point department, he moved to a perfect 33-for-33 on the year. The 33 extra points are the seventh most on the school's single-season list.

Ewald is the first Hoosier to collect Freshman of the Week honors and the first to card Special Teams Player of the Week accolades since Starr following his 2007 Bucket game-winner.
