The Indiana University men's golf team, seeded fifth at the 2010 Big Ten Match Play Championship, dropped their quarterfinal match against fourth-seeded Minnesota, 3.5-2.5.

"Minnesota is a good golf team, they really are," said Head Coach Mike Mayer. "They were able to hit some big shots down the stretch, and we weren't."

Three different matches came down to the 18th hole, all eventually going in favor of the Golden Gophers.

"We had our chances with three matches coming down to the final hole," said Mayer. "We need just one of those holes to go our way and we were victorious."

Sophomore David Erdy nearly sank a 20-foot putt on the 18th to hand IU the team win, but it was just off the mark and lipped out. Erdy earned a half point for the Hoosiers, tying Donald Constable.

Junior Ren Han came out firing for the Cream and Crimson, putting IU ahead 1-0 with his 6&4 blistering of Robert Bell in the No. 6 match.

Freshman Brant Peaper, playing in his home state of Florida, also notched a point for Indiana in his first collegiate match play event. The Tequesta, Fla., native defeated Thomas Campbell, 3&2, in the No. 4 match.

6- Ren Han (IU) def. Robert Bell (MINN), 6&4

With Purdue's upset over No. 1 seed Illinois Friday morning, the Hoosiers first match in the consolation bracket will be against the top-seeded Fighting Illini.

"We have the opportunity to take on the number one team tomorrow," said Mayer. "We need to take advantage of that opportunity and get a big win."
