Indiana Completes First Round at Bayou City Collegiate Championship

HUMBLE, Texas - The Indiana men's golf team (No. 50 Golfstat/No. 43 Golfweek) posted a first round score of 296 (+8) at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship at Redstone Golf Club, putting them in 13th place out of 15 teams. Senior Brant Peaper posted the best score of the day for the Hoosiers with an even-par 72.
Peaper, along with the rest of the Hoosiers, began their day going off the 10th tee. The senior from Tequesta, Fla., went out in 2-under 32 thanks to a pair of birdies, but came in on the front nine in 2-over 38 to post Even par 72.
Michael McGee had a pair of birdies and three bogey's on his first nine holes and then came in with a pair of birdies and a double bogey on his 17th hole of the day to finish one-over for the day. Joining McGee at one-over was Corey Ziedonis, who got off to a rocky start on his first nine holes, registering three bogey's. But the front nine was much more steady, as he recorded seven pars and two birdies on his was to a round of 73.
Hugo Menendez post the fourth score that counted for Indiana, a six-over 78. Although he started with two birdies in his first four holes, he closed his front nine with three bogey's and found trouble on his way in with a pair of double bogey's.
David Mills carded an 80 in his first round, going out in 39 and then coming in in 41.
Texas is the leader after round one, posting a three-under par 285 team score with Baylor one stroke behind them in second place. Individually, Brax McCarthy post a five-under par 67 to lead the tournament while playing as an individual.
Indiana will get round two underway at 10:45 a.m. Central Time, going off the 10th tee once again and will be playing with New Mexico State and Rice.
