WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Freshman Jorge Campillo claimed his second straight top-10 finish as the Indiana men's golf team finished eighth out of 15 teams at the Orange County National Invitational on March 5. Indiana recorded scores of 291, 285, and 296 en route to a team total of 872 at the Crooked Cat Golf Course (par 72, 7,277 yards).

Tournament champion Lamar held a commanding lead over the field from the start of the tournament. The Cardinals shot a 31-under-par score of 833 (271-279-283). Second-place Xavier finished 19 strokes behind with an 852 (288-285-279).

"Our guys need to get used to the grind of playing two straight days, and they're not quite there yet," head coach Mike Mayer said. "With four freshmen and a sophomore in the lineup, I think we learned a lot about ourselves today. We have a better idea of what we need to work on."

Campillo led the way for the Hoosiers as he has done all season. The Caceres, Spain native began the final round in second place after firing rounds of 70 and 68 on day one. A final round 74 assured Campillo of a sixth-place tie. It was Campillo's second top-10 finish in as many tournaments, coming on the heels of a second-place performance at the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic (Feb. 19-20), which earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors.

"Jorge had a really good tournament this weekend," Mayer said. "He made a couple of mistakes today, but he was able to finish strong. Overall, I think he had an outstanding tournament."

Freshman Drew Allenspach turned in a consistent performance at 2-over 218 (73-72-73). Allenspach, who entered the final round in a tie for 26th place, finished sharing a four-way tie for 25th.

Sophomore Santiago Quirarte found himself in ninth place after the first two rounds. However, a 5-over par final round denied Quirarte his second straight top 10. The Queretaro, Mexico native collected a 219 (73-69-74) to finish tied for 29th.

Freshman Seth Brandon recorded a 226 (75-77-74), and classmate Brandon Pike shot a 228 (77-76-75) to round out the Hoosier lineup.

Next up for the Hoosiers will be the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Sunday-Tuesday, March 19-21, in Pinehurst, N.C.
